Named By: Robert Broom‭ ‬-‭ ‬1913.
Synonyms: Possibly Arctops.
Classification: Chordata,‭ ‬Therapsida,‭ ‬Gorgonopsia.
Species: S.‭ ‬grimbeeki,‭ ‬S.‭ ‬major,‭ ‬S.‭ ‬parvus‭ & ‬S.‭ ‬robustus.
Diet: Carnivore.
Size: Uncertain.
Known locations: South Africa.
Time period: Late Permian.
Fossil representation: Skulls.

       Scylacognathus was named a year before another genus caled Arctops which may actually be the adult form of Scylacognathus.‭ ‬If correct then only Scylacognathus would be a valid genus of gorgonopsid,‭ ‬and the skulls attributed to Arctops will be added to Scylacognathus.
